Can you visit NYU as a tourist? ›

We offer in-person campus tours on our Washington Square campus, and also a virtual tour option so that you can explore our campus however suits you best. Our capacity for in-person guests is limited due to COVID-19 safety protocols, so advanced registration is required. Looking for more ways to explore campus?

Like New York City, NYU's New York campus is home to people from all over the world. In fact, our student body is comprised of students from more than 130 countries! No matter where they apply from, every NYU applicant is held to the same admissions standards, and generally follows the same application steps.

Is NYU an Ivy League School? Although NYU is not an Ivy League school, it is often considered on par with the Ivies due to academics, research, and athletic prestige.

NYU Cost of Attendance

Per year tuition fee is $54,800, NYU room and board is $19,244, and book supplies and other expenses sum up to around &718 and $2624, respectively. All these expenses are multiplied by 4 to get the actual cost of getting a degree from NYU.

There are no GPA cutoffs at NYU, meaning your GPA won't immediately disqualify you. The average GPA of admitted students is 3.7, so a GPA above that can help you become a more competitive applicant.

NYU is not one of the eight Ivy League schools. However, its top-notch academics and athletics are considered at par with those of Ivy Leagues. NYU has one of the largest international populations of any higher education institutions. This, plus the large student body, allows plenty of opportunity for you to meet individuals from all areas of life and every corner of the globe. Therefore, if you attend NYU, you'll join a student body that represents the world.

Attend school full time. Earn $125,000 or less (household federal adjusted gross income) Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) application.

How NYU Rates Applicants. There are five factors that NYU ranks as being “very important” to their admissions process: 1) rigor of secondary school record, 2) class rank, 3) GPA, 4) standardized test scores, and 5) talent/ability.

As a private institution, NYU Libraries is unable to offer members of the public general access to the Libraries and collections. However, there are a number of ways visitors can access the Libraries based on affiliation and research need.

Curfew. All students living on campus must check-in to their residential hall no later than 11:00 p.m. Sunday-Thursday and 12:00 a.m. Friday-Saturday, students may leave the hall after 7:00 a.m. each day.

Living on campus is optional. It is not required, unless NYU-NYC is your study away location for students enrolled at NYU-Shanghai or NYU-Abu Dhabi. Over 97% of our rooms are shared. Less than 3% are private rooms.

New York University admissions is most selective with an acceptance rate of 13%. Half the applicants admitted to NYU have an SAT score between 1450 and 1570 or an ACT score of 32 and 35.

It's no surprise, then, that in 2021-2022, more than 100,000 students applied to at least one of NYU's three campuses in NYC, Abu Dhabi, and Shanghai. And of these, only 12.8% were admitted, and admitted students had an average SAT score of a whopping 1540.

An undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or better is required for admission. Letters of Recommendation, a Statement of Purpose, and a professional resume are also required from all applicants seeking admission to any graduate program.

A 1400 on the SAT makes it possible to apply to a sizable number of colleges, including very competitive colleges. Among your target options are the University of California-Los Angeles (UCLA), University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, and New York University, all of which accept students with an average of a 1400 SAT score.

The 25th percentile New SAT score is 1370, and the 75th percentile SAT score is 1510. In other words, a 1370 places you below average, while a 1510 will move you up to above average. There's no absolute SAT requirement at NYU, but they really want to see at least a 1370 to have a chance at being considered.

New York University has a total undergraduate enrollment of 28,772 (fall 2021), with a gender distribution of 42% male students and 58% female students. At this school, 40% of the students live in college-owned, -operated or -affiliated housing and 60% of students live off campus.

Cornell is considered the "easiest" Ivy League to get into because it has the highest Ivy League acceptance rate. While it's easier, statistically speaking, to get into Cornell, it's still challenging. It's also important to remember that students apply directly to one of Cornell's eight undergraduate colleges.

Princeton. Princeton is commonly regarded as the “cheapest Ivy” thanks to its extensive financial aid offerings. 62% of admitted students receive financial aid. The school meets full demonstrated need and 83% of recent seniors graduated debt-free, in part due to Princeton's complete no-loan financial aid policies.

The Hidden Ivies are colleges and universities considered to rival the eight Ivy League schools without being part of that prestigious group. These schools offer similar academic opportunities to students but might get overlooked because of their lack of popularity when compared to the famous Ivies.

1. Harvard University. Cambridge, Massachusetts, U.S.

The Ivy League with the best campus is Princeton. It's reputed as having the prettiest campus. But beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.

The NYU acceptance rate is one of the first things to consider when figuring out how to get into NYU. As we said earlier, out of over 100,000 global applicants, fewer than 13,000 made the undergraduate enrollment in the Class of 2025, making the acceptance rate just 12.8%.

During the last part of the 60s, this university was close to insolvency. To cure this, NYU sold its campus in Bronx (Heights). This helps the institution raise the educational cost to cover the deficiencies. The college recuperated greatly, however, it proceeds with development – and this has kept the expense high.

Non-NYU Guest: Guests who are not otherwise affiliated with New York University may be eligible to enter a residence hall if they are sponsored by an NYU community member and are in compliance with NYU's vaccination requirements to enter an NYU facility.

Can anyone get a NYC ID? ›

All New York City residents age 10 and older can apply for an IDNYC card. Applicants will be required to present proof of identity and residency in New York City. There is a $25 fee to replace your NYUCard. The Card Center staff can assist you by generating replacement ID cards. You must submit a form of identification (i.e. State Driver's License, State Photo ID, or Passport) in order to receive your new NYUCard.

You will need three (3) points worth of documents to prove your identity and a one (1) point document to prove your residency. All applicants applying independently must provide photo identification and a document with your date of birth listed.

Minimum GPA Requirement

NYU is a highly selective university with high academic standards. The minimum GPA required for admission to NYU is 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. However, keep in mind that this is only the minimum requirement and that most successful applicants have a GPA of 3.5 or higher.

Even visitors from outside New York can obtain a library card that offer 3-months access to our collections.

This option may seem extreme, but keep one thing in mind: Knowledge and permission should be at the heart of any rule about sleepovers in your room. If both roommates think it's OK to have the occasional sibling or friend from another college spend a night, then it's fine, with a little warning.
